Full Fat vs Fat Free

Hey BA!

While the narrative is thankfully changing due to the keto craze, there is still often a stigma around high fat items. There is something ingrained in us from our recent history that tells us that fat-free is “healthier” than full fat. This could not be further from the truth. Let’s look at why -

Fat is often what gives food its delicious flavor. In order to replicate this taste, companies denature the product by replacing the fat with sugar. However, the higher sugar content results in a more inflammatory product. The added sugar in low-fat/fat-free products contribute to a variety of illnesses including heart disease and cancer.

Instead, we should be eating as close to the natural food source as possible. This means full fat. Fat is rich in nutrients, not to mention much more satiating. Fat-free, high sugar items leave you hungry in an hour, while full fat items keep you full and satisfied. This leads to less snacking and reduces overall consumption throughout the day.

So, swap out those low-fat/fat-free products for full fat!
